Konnichi wa tomodachi!!!!

I will also say Happy Valentine’s Day!!!! I don’t know how to say that in Nihongo, so I’ll just say it in Ego!!! So…

Anyway, I just wanted to tell everyone about church today. We had an awesome service!!! You could just feel God moving all over the place.

First, Brother Kwasi taught Sunday School, and he talked about “Where Is Your Focus”? He was saying if you focus on your problems, they will seem huge!!! Like mountains!!!! But if you put your focus on God, he’ll make it so much easier to take care of your problems. The first scripture he used was Numbers 13:1-3, 17, 26-33.

1And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,  2Send thou men, that they may search the land of Canaan, which I give unto the children of Israel: of every tribe of their fathers shall ye send a man, every one a ruler among them.  3And Moses by the commandment of the LORD sent them from the wilderness of Paran: all those men were heads of the children of Israel.  17And Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, and said unto them, Get you up this way southward, and go up into the mountain:   26And they went and came to Moses, and to Aaron, and to all the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the wilderness of Paran, to Kadesh; and brought back word unto them, and unto all the congregation, and shewed them the fruit of the land.   27And they told him, and said, We came unto the land whither thou sentest us, and surely it floweth with milk and honey; and this is the fruit of it.   28Nevertheless the people be strong that dwell in the land, and the cities are walled, and very great: and moreover we saw the children of Anak there.   29The Amalekites dwell in the land of the south: and the Hittites, and the Jebusites, and the Amorites, dwell in the mountains: and the Canaanites dwell by the sea, and by the coast of Jordan.   30And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.   31But the men that went up with him said, We be not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we.   32And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have gone to search it, is a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature.   33And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.

He was saying that the 10 spies were focusing on the problems, but Caleb and Joshua were focused on their God. The other 10 were focused more on the people and the mountain, but Caleb and Joshua were more focused on their God that told them they were going to have the land of Canaan.

The second scripture Brother Kwasi used was I Samuel 4:3-11 and then 2:12. But you have to read it in that order to understand why he put it that way.

3And when the people were come into the camp, the elders of Israel said, Wherefore hath the LORD smitten us to day before the Philistines? Let us fetch the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of Shiloh unto us, that, when it cometh among us, it may save us out of the hand of our enemies.   4So the people sent to Shiloh, that they might bring from thence the ark of the covenant of the LORD of hosts, which dwelleth between the cherubims: and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God.   5And when the ark of the covenant of the LORD came into the camp, all Israel shouted with a great shout, so that the earth rang again.   6And when the Philistines heard the noise of the shout, they said, What meaneth the noise of this great shout in the camp of the Hebrews? And they understood that the ark of the LORD was come into the camp.   7And the Philistines were afraid, for they said, God is come into the camp. And they said, Woe unto us! for there hath not been such a thing heretofore.   8Woe unto us! who shall deliver us out of the hand of these mighty Gods? these are the Gods that smote the Egyptians with all the plagues in the wilderness.   9Be strong and quit yourselves like men, O ye Philistines, that ye be not servants unto the Hebrews, as they have been to you: quit yourselves like men, and fight.   10And the Philistines fought, and Israel was smitten, and they fled every man into his tent: and there was a very great slaughter; for there fell of Israel thirty thousand footmen.   11And the ark of God was taken; and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were slain.

This was when the Israelites were fighting against the Philistines, but the priests then weren’t living for God.

12Now the sons of Eli were sons of Belial; they knew not the LORD.

When you go through and find out what the sons of Belial were, they were men that weren’t living right, doing almost anything and everything that God is against. So when the Bible is saying that they were the sons of Belial, he was saying that they weren’t living for God. So basically, they weren’t focusing on God. They were focusing on everything around them. So when the time of the battle came, and when they were getting beat, and when everything was going wrong, the wanted God to come right then and help them. And God does come help us, but when you know what is right and don’t do it, then want God to help you when everything is going wrong,… well that just doesn’t work!!!

Another scripture he used was I Samuel 17, where David killed Goliath. Most of you know the story but for those of you who don’t, or if it’s been too long since you read it (Just kidding!!!!), David was a little shepherd boy and one day his brothers went to war with the Philistines. One day, his dad asked David to go take some food to his brothers. When he got there, David heard this big booming voice say, “ Why are ye come out to set your battle in array? am not I a Philistine, and ye servants to Saul? choose you a man for you, and let him come down to me.  If he be able to fight with me, and to kill me, then will we be your servants: but if I prevail against him, and kill him, then shall ye be our servants, and serve us.  And the Philistine said, I defy the armies of Israel this day; give me a man, that we may fight together“. So when David heard this, he said ” What shall be done to the man that killeth this Philistine, and taketh away the reproach from Israel? for who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?” The army of “men” were too scared and too fearful to fight this giant that was defying God, so they let David do the job. And they didn’t try to say, “You’re only a little boy. You’re only a kid. You can’t do it.” Saul gladly gave David his armor. But David didn’t use the armor. He went and got 5 small smooth stones, and went out there onto the field with his slingshot, the stones, and his God and after Goliath taunted him with, “Am I a dog, that thou comest to me with staves?” and “Come to me, and I will give thy flesh unto the fowls of the air, and to the beasts of the field”, David answered him with these words, “Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied. This day will the LORD deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcases of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. And all this assembly shall know that the LORD saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the LORD’s, and he will give you into our hands.” And that’s exactly what happened. God gave Goliath into the hands of the Israelites. Because one boy had was more focused on his God than the problem, they were able to conquer the problem with no problem at all!!!

Also, Brother Kwasi also used Matthew 14:22-33

22And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away. 23And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.  24But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary.  25And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.  26And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear.  27But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.  28And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.  29And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.  30But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.  31And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?  32And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased. 33Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.

Peter at the beginning was focused on God, but somewhere along his walk, he lost focused and started focusing on the problem. Peter was still the same Peter, and Jesus was still the same Jesus, and the troubled water was still the same troubled water, but Peter’s focus wasn’t where it was supposed to be. Some church people are like that; we are focused on God at the beginning of our walk with him, even though we are in the world that is like those troubled waters, but somewhere along our walk, we lose focus on God and start focusing on the problems of the world, and then we start to sink, just like Peter. But when we call out to Him, God will then reach out His hand and say, “Oh thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?”

Later, my dad was going to talk about Jacob and Esau. Well, more about Jacob. He didn’t get to preach because the power of God was so strong, but he did tell a little bit about it. And it was basically the same thing that Brother Kwasi talked about. He was saying that Jacob didn’t get blessed until he crossed over the ford of Jabbok, which stands for struggle; to empty and pour out. This is also the place where Jacob wrestled with the angel. And my dad was saying that several commentators say that, it had to have been a physical encounter with an angel or God. But, my dad was saying, do you think, that maybe God sent that angel to Jacob to wrestle him so that Jacob would give his all. My dad asked the church if they’ve ever seen kids that are out in the country wrestling. They kick up a bunch of dust and it’s a mess, but they are giving it their all. So do you think that maybe God sent the angel to cause Jacob to give God his all and worship him with everything in him. But it was only when Jacob started focusing on God and stopped focusing on Esau, and the fact that he might not be there the next day, he was able to get a hold of God, and get changed. After that, my dad didn’t hardly get to say anything else. Everyone was just praying. But it felt awesome!!!!!

Also today, we got the words to “God Is So Good” in Chugoku-go (Chinese) from Sister Jackie. I don’t know if you read the entry where I put the words to this song in Ego, Nihongo, and Ghanaian (I don’t know how to say it in Japanese!!!) So here it is in Chugoku-go!!!

Shang Di Zhen Hao (Title: God is so Good)

Shang Di zhen Hao (x3)

Ta Dua Wo Zhen Hao

That is all I have for now. Gomen nasai that I didn’t get any pictures. I will do another entry ASAP, whenever I get some more pictures!!!

Konnichi wa tomodachi!!!! That above what you are now reading is Fuji-san. This was taken at dusk one evening and the sun made a beautiful silhouette.

Anyway, I will now get to the purpose of this post.   These pictures are all from Sunday January 31. There are pictures from both church and a fellowship/double Blessing baby shower for Peter and Alice (will tell you more about the double Blessing thing later). So here they are.

This is Misa, Sister Jackie’s daughter. Sister Jackie is Singaporean. Misa had quit coming to church for some time (she has not been here since we have been in Japan until today)  and last week she was supposed to have surgery for appendicitis,  Her Mother, Sister Jackie stood in for Misa for prayer. Misa later told Sister Jackie that she started feeling better very soon after we had prayed for her, and that as soon as she was out of the hospital, she wanted to go to church with Sister Jackie. And that’s what happened. Misa came back to church and was refilled with the Holy Ghost!!  Praise God!!!  We had an awesome service Sunday. I’m sorry I don’t have anymore pictures of that service. I wish I did, but I don’t. Gomen nasai!!!

And this is from that afternoon during the baby shower and fellowship.

This is the cake the Sister Mateo made for my mom, Beck, and I for our birthday’s. Then the cake she made for Alice (the green cake) and Peter (the blue cake).

And here is everyone eating and having fun.

And here is Steven. Then everyone getting their food.

And here is the baby shower. Everyone  called it a double Blessing baby shower because Peter’s mom is Sister Blessing Apedo and Alice’s mom is Sister Blessing Omorefe.

The first picture is of Sister Blessing Omorefe. The second is of Sister Blessing Apedo.

This is Sister Blessing  and Brother Omorefe and Alice. Then Sister Blessing and Brother Paul Apedo with Peter.

Both families together.

I won’t show you pictures of everything that the mom’s got, but they did get everything from clothes to dipers to laundry soap and more of the same things.

And this is Brother Logan and Jeremiah.

And this is Sister Blessing Apedo biting into Peter’s cake. Then Sister Blessing Omorefe chewing her bite of cake.

And this is Steven singing to one of the Ghanaian songs that they had playing. Then Steven took this picture of Bernice and Sister Logan.

Then Brother Logan and Jeremiah. And then Steven with Bernice’s sunglasses on.

Then me and Steven. And then Beck with a purse that Haley and Sister Mateo got for her birthday.

Jeremiah. And this was supposed to me and Haley, but I was still zoomed in and only got Haley’s face. OPPS!!!

And is Beck and I both holding the purses that Haley and Sister Mateo got us. I was trying to look to see if Beck was making a funny face or something and Christine snapped the picture. Oh well. I guess I’m the one making the funny face and not Beck!!!!

And this is supposed to be a group picture, but Lisa wanted in!!! So she jumped in!!! And in the second picture, Beck didn’t want in, so we had to hold her in.

And Steven wanted in the next one, so he ran over and we had him jump in that picture too. Then Haley and Beck.

And last but not least, Steven. I wanted to take his picture so he let me. ISN’T HE ADORABLE?!?!?!?!?!

That is all I have for now, tomodachi!!!! I’ll do another entry ASAP!!!

Ja mata ne!!!!!

Sights from around the New Sanno.

Friday, February 5th, 2010

Okay, here is the ano (umm)…continue of the last entry.  This one is going to show everything that we saw while we were down by the New Sanno. But I will tell you, that if you don’t have time to read and see it all now, I would wait till you have time, because this entry is going to be long. Not too long, just long. You know what I mean. Well I hope you do!!!

Okay, first there are some buildings that are either pretty, odd shaped, or just cool looking.  The ones that I know, I’ll tell what they are, but most of them I don’t know.

I like the top of this first one. And next, there is a picture of a Samurai helmet and some of the protective gear that they wear.

I like the shape of this building. Well, both of them actually.

And here is a shrine thing in this first picture. And in the second picture, that building has an elevator on the outside of the building. I don’t know about that. I didn’t do very good going up the Tower of Americas OR the Tokyo Tower, but you’ll read about that later. But the building is also like all glass too. That would be weird.

And here are a few pictures of the famous, or maybe it’s infamous, Tokyo Tower. So we were going up into the first level, which is like 13 some odd meters up in the air. To give you an idea of how high up that is, there are 426 feet and 6 inches in 130 meters. So it was higher than that. And that was only the first level. So going up to the first level, and I was good going up till the walls opened up around the elevator and then I had to look at the floor, since that was the only thing that was covered, till we got to the top. So after we got to the first floor, which is the Main Observatory deck, we were going to go to the Special Observatory deck, which is some 200 and something meters up. 200 meters is roughly 655-656 feet. When we got to the elevator to go up there, my head started pounding, I got real hot all of a sudden, and my stomach was feeling VERY queasy. Also my  mom didn’t want to do it, so she was happy I didn’t want to. So my dad told the guy there and he said; Ahh…no going up.  Why??  Then my dad said, Doesn’t like heights (pointing to me and my mom). Very queasy. The guy said, No don’t go. Get refund?  So Yetsu arigato (thank you Jesus) that we were able to get a refund.

Anyway, here are your pictures of the tower. I really like the second one.

And these go to Dr. Gibson; Here are your pictures of the skyline. There are buildings as far as you can  see.

And these first couple are facing toward Tokyo Disney Land, the Tokyo  Bay, and Rainbow Bridge.

And this is a shrine with a cemetery in front or maybe it’s behind it. And the second picture is of another shrine that had this huge group of people out front. We don’t know what was going on but there was a lot of people there.

And in this first picture, they had a sort of a hole in the floor of the first floor of the tower and, although it was covered with glass, for safety of course, I wouldn’t go close to it (I was scared that the tower would collapse. that’s what it felt like walking close to that…hole). So Beck walked over to it and held the camera over it and snapped this picture for me. And then a picture after we got down to firm ground, looking up at the tower, from several different views. And I must confess, the first picture of the tower, looking up, is a billboard. The actual tower is in the second picture.

And this first one, I have no clue what it says, I just liked all the wolves, or maybe dogs of some sort. Maybe it’s just cause I miss my dogs so much!!! I don’t know!! But I do know that the second picture is SO cool!!!! It is a bicycle taxi made for two plus the driver. It was made in Germany, but they had one over here. We all thought it was totally cool!!!!

And these next two are of Beck and I beside a waterfall just about a 5 minute walk from the tower.

And this is the stream that the waterfall was running, (or would that be falling?!?!?!?!?) into.

I like the tower in these pictures.

And this is entering into a part of a shrine where they will hang their prayers. I don’t remember for sure why it is outside though. And the second picture is, I think, where they would go to bow. I could be wrong though.

And this is the Zojoji shrine. It is very big and I don’t just mean big…it’s HUGE!! And then the Tokyo Tower behind the shrine.

And this is where most people (we didn’t, of course) will go and wash their hands before they go into the shrine. And then there is just something else that was there. I don’t know if it is for incense or sacrifices, but it looks kind of old.

And I don’t know what this is, but it looks cool. I like the shape. And then it’s me, my mom, and Beck standing in front of the shrine and off to the side of the Tokyo Tower. And what is funny, is that we have a picture at home, where it is Beck and I and then some of our friends that we met when we were here before. And then it’s my parents in the next two.

And this is where we think the priests live or something along those lines. And then the doors going into the shrine itself. They were absolutely HUGE!!!!!

And this is Buddha. We’re pretty for sure that it is all 100% gold.  And looks at the chandelier’s. Their gorgeous. And huge.

And here is the incense thing and I’m pretty sure  people were throwing money into the thing in front. And then there are the the huge gongs that I think they use I think to call the services or something like that. Don’t hold me to that because I don’t know for sure!!! But the gong sure is pretty though!

And I don’t know what these next few things are, but I’m going to put them on here just because!!!   Actually I do know what the second picture is of. It’s this huge bell. But’s that’s all I know about it!!! Gomen!!!

And I don’t know what these are.

And here is some other little shrine we saw. It looks really old. And then it is the moat to the great famous, or maybe infamous, imperial palace!!!

And here is the palace itself. And the koban, or police box, for  palace.

And here is a close up shot of the palace. And here is one of the guards that are at the gate that is in front of the road that leads to the palace. And then both of them. And the fourth picture is of the gate leading right up to the palace.

And then a picture of Beck and I standing in front of the gate, with the guard pacing behind us. And then both of us in front of the bridge and palace.

And these next couple pictures are kind of interesting. Looking at the first couple pictures, you will see the face of a samurai that is on his horse, but that is not the front of the statue. His horse is heading one direction but he is facing another. The write up on it (which we read in Ego, or english) said that he is heading away from the palace, but he’s not taking his eye’s off the palace while he is going wherever he is going, I think to war. He wants to keep his eyes on the palace. Sort of like we need to keep our eyes on God while we’re at war with the the devil.

Beck and I in front of the faithful samurai. Then the name of the samurai in Ego and Nihongo.

And I know this is way off the subject, but this swan was BEAUTIFUL!!!! I loved it!! There were actually two there, but I couldn’t get the other one.

Well, that’s all I have. Gomen that this is so long but…well I took a lot of pictures and I wanted to share them with everyone.

We are having such a great time over here, and we want to share everything with everyone back home what all fun and great things are happening over here.

I’ll be posting another entry as soon as I get some more pictures. Gomen Burris Kyodai!!! Sorry Brother Burris!!!!
